NWCAthletics.com, the official website of Northwest Conference Athletics, has several opportunities for Senior Projects for 2009 graduates. These are great opportunities for Journalism, Media, Web Development and sports minded students. All of these projects require good communications and writing skills, access to a digital camera and graphics editing software. Recommendation by two teachers and approval by your school Athletic Director is also required.
Build Athletic Venue Pages
This is a great project for students who have an interest in graphics and/or website design.
Build venue pages for your school's athletic venues or for all the venues in the conference for a particular sport. This project would include communicating with Athletic Directors and office staff at each school, taking photographs at each venue site, gathering maps and driving directions to each venue, editing photographs and other graphics files, uploading images and other files to website.
There are several opportunities available, but only one for each school or sport.
Maintain a School or Team Page
This is a great project for students who have an interest in journalism or website design
Promote your school by helping maintain your school's pages on NWCAthletics.com. This would involve communication with your Athletic Director and/or coaches to develop content for your school pages. Write articles about you school, teams and athletic programs, take photos, research school sports history and school records.
Lots of opportunities available!
Design Website Graphics
This is a great project for students who are artistically inclined with an interest in computer graphics and website design
Help redesign the look of the NWCAthletics.com website for the next school year. Design a new banner, command icons, school logos and other website graphics.
There is only ONE opportunity available for this project.
Promotional video
This is a great project for students who have interest in multimedia and video editing and production.
Write and produce a video to promote the NWCAthletics.com website. This video will be available online at the NWCAthletics.com website, on youtube.com and shown in parent preseason meetings.
Only one or two of these projects are available.
Make Up Your Own Project
If you have an idea for a project that would be a significant contribution to the NWCAthletics.com website and would be suitable for your Senior Project, write up a proposal and contact the NWCAthletics.com webmaster. (See contact information below).

I guess it's a bit ironic that the last time I wrote something here, I entitled the article "Signs of Spring". Nearly two months later, we're still waiting for Old Man Winter to get out of town. When I woke up to snow this morning, I just had to take the short drive to the Lynden High School ball field to capture the essence of the first few weeks of the young 2008 spring season.
I don't know who I feel more sorry for, the baseball, fastpitch, and tennis players who keep getting their games cancelled, or players of the other sports who have to play in 40 degree rain.
In the first sign of spring (at least for me) Northwest Conference Athletic Directors released official spring schedules on Friday. First practice is on February 25, with some of the Jamborees being played as early as March 8th. Brrrrrrrrr!
Spring is the busiest season in high school athletics with seven different sports. I'll be entering the schedules over the next couple of weeks in the following order:
Varsity Baseball
Varsity Fastpitch
Track
Varsity Boys' Soccer
Boys' Golf
Girls' Golf
Girls' Tennis
I'll follow up varsity sports with junior varsity and C team sports. I expect it to take me a couple of weeks to get all of these events input, so please be patient.
Also, please note that, although these are official schedules from the NWC, they are still changing as ADs and coaches make decisions about what invitationals and non-conference events they will be participating in. In fact, spring sports schedules are in a contstant state of change with many events being rescheduled due to unpredictable weather.
I'll be working with the NWC schools this spring to get schedule changes posted here immediately when games are cancelled or rescheduled, so please check back often.

NWCAthletics.com is a great way for you to share your game photos with site visitors. Rather than emailing your photos to out of state family members and clogging up their inbox, create a NWCAthletics.com photo gallery and upload your photos for everyone to enjoy!
To upload your photos, you must first register with NWCAthletics.com (takes less than 5 minutes). After you've registered, login and go to your team page. Click Photos from the team dropdown menu to go to the photo gallery pages. Once on the Photo Gallery page, click "Add Gallery" and you are on your way.
Tips:
- Maximum image size is 2MB, so if you have a real hi-rez camera, you may need to downsize your photos before you upload them.
- Photos are automatically downsized to 800x600 to conserve server space and maximize website performance.
- A thumbnail image index is automatically created as you upload your photos.
- Any photos you upload must first be approved by a site Admin before site visitors can view them. This is to prevent jokesters from using our family oriented site to publish inappropriate images.
- You have the option to leave a photo gallery open for other site members to add to your photo gallery or you can close the gallery so that only you can add images.
Enjoy!
NWCAthletics.com is looking for Bloggers for girls' soccer, volleyball, swimming and boys' tennis. If you follow one of these sports closely and have average or better writing ability, we'd love to hear from you.
We are also continuing to look for additional writers for our football and cross-country blogs, and it's never too early to get started on our winter sports blogs.

Contact us to find out more.
You've heard them on the radio and read their KPUG Blog, now you can read Doug Lange's and Mark Scholten's pearls of wisdom on the NWCAthletics.com Football blog. That's right, Doug and Mark will be sharing their expert analysis before and after each of their weekly game broadcasts, right here on NWCAthletics.com!
Jeff Rex of KAPS radio in Mount Vernon will also be providing pre and post game blog coverage for their game of the week.
Of course, our own Tyler Dean Anderson will bring his own analysis, so check in with NWCAthletics.com before and after the game to find out what our experts are saying!
